Maine Moose Hunting - Guided and Unguided Hunts
Wadleigh Mountain Camps is located in some of the finest Moose habitat in the state. Being the largest mammal in the state of Maine, the Moose is a trophy big game animal desired by many. Our guides spend countless hours scouting for Moose prior to the season. This summer / early fall scouting allows us to be prepared to put our clients on a trophy Moose during the hunt. Like any hunting sport, we can't guarantee that you'll shoot a record breaking Moose. We can guarantee a professionally guided, safe hunt with a diligent effort to put you on that trophy of a lifetime. Utilizing the services of a competent guide, familiar with the area and habitat, greatly increases your chances of success.
Each year Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife selects nearly 4,000 lucky permit holders through a lottery system. Applications are due in May with the permit drawing in late June. Each permit holder is assigned a week in either September, October or November as well as a bull or cow permit. Permit holders are also assigned a Moose Hunting Zone (WMD's). Wadleigh Mountain Camps is centrally located in Zone 5 with zones 2, 6, 10 & 11 a short drive away.
A typical day of Moose hunting begins very early, often at daybreak and stretches until sunset. During the fall rut, Moose are very receptive to calling. They are quite territorial and can become aggressive during this period. Through calling, glassing clear-cut / marsh, areas, and hunting habitat where Moose are known to frequent, we will increase your chances of taking that trophy of a lifetime.
